Clean and mean

THREE muscle men from Salford are determined to prove that they can get to the top of the tree in the world of body building without resorting to taking steroids.

Good friends Dave Chapman, aged 42, Ian Tunicliffe, aged 42, and Paul Dutton, aged 36, all train together at the Pendlebury Muscle and Fitness Gym.

Chapman said: "Everyone wants to become the best of the best and that’s what Ian, Paul and I are aiming towards.

"But we will do it by being clean. We won’t go down the road of taking steroids.

"It is not easy trying to get to the top when there are body builders out there that do take steroids. But it can be done as long as you train hard and that’s what we do. We’re in the gym twice a day, seven days a week."

The trio have all been body building for about 10 years and they each have big competitions on the horizon.

School caretaker Chapman will take part in the British National Body Building Federation qualifiers at the Dance House Theatre, Oxford Road, Manchester, on Sunday, July 13. Builder Tunicliffe will compete in the English Body Building Federation qualifiers at Parr Hall, Warrington, on Sunday, May 25. And Manchester Airport employee Dutton will strutt his stuff at the Natural Physique Association qualifiers in Middleton on Saturday, June 7.

Former boxer Chapman said: "We all want to come first in our categories and we are capable of doing that having trained particularly hard this year."
