AGE seems to be no barrier to the potting talents of Ordsall’s Paul Medati.
The former snooker star recently beat nine-ball world pool champion Daryl Peach to Stretford’s Monday Night Pool League title at the age of 64.
And he won all six of his games for Great Britain in the European Over-40s Pool Championships in Holland.
Medati said: “I had a great career in snooker. I was a professional for 20 years, winning two Great Britain championships with John Virgo and beating a lot of the all-time greats like Alex Higgins, Steve Davis and Jimmy White.
“But I started playing pool five years ago and winning the Monday Night Pool League in Stretford and helping Great Britain reach the quarter-finals of the European championships is definitely my biggest achievement in the sport.
“I was in a car accident three years back and only started playing again about six months ago.
“The Stretford league contained 40 top players from all over the place so I am really pleased to have come out on top.
“I beat nine-ball world champion Daryl Peach from Blackpool twice on my way to the title.
“And I am equally pleased with the way I performed in Holland. I won all of my games but unfortunately my teammates Neil Jenkins from Cheadle and Martin Chapman from Leeds lost at the quarter-final stage and we went out to Germany.”
Medati, who was born and bred in Salford, picked up £1,000 for his Stretford league success.
He plays on the European tour and is hopeful of being selected for a new 96-man GB elite league in Barnsley after Christmas.
