Coyotes tear up the history book

29/11/2007

IN-LINE ROLLER HOCKEY: PENDLEBURY Coyotes’ under-10s team made history by winning an NIHL game with only five players on Sunday.

A full quota of players for a league game includes 12 players and two goalkeepers.

But, after competing in the taster opening tournament for the BIPHA league at Salford University the previous day, the Coyotes were severely short of numbers for their game against Macclesfield Meltdown.

And, against all the odds, the Coyotes avenged a 7-0 defeat to Macclesfield with a 5-3 success.

Coyotes coach Tony Camilleri said: “It was an amazing achievement that has never been done before. The team has made club and NIHL history.”

The team was made up of goalkeeper Mark Durkin, Ryan Derby, Reece Birchall, David Mosley and Ellis Cooper, who picked up the most valuable player award.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes finished third in the taster tournament at Salford University.
