Smith tells Reds to grasp their chances

21/ 6/2007

GREAT Britain's new coach Tony Smith believes Friday's test against France is a chance for Salford's Andy Coley and David Hodgson to force themselves into the team permanently.

Both have been named in the Lions' starting 13 for the game at Headingly and will be eager to shine as Smith starts his new regime.

Smith said: "It would be nice if all eight new players could get their chance.

"Some of these players have now got their opportunity to prove something, but then they will have to back it up in Super League week-in, week-out at the back end of the year to play against the Kiwis.

"It is the right time to bring in new blood and it is important that the established players know there are people knocking on the door.

"There's no charity; the selections are all warranted.

"These young and new players have earned the right to be given a chance."
