‘I want GB job’

SALFORD Reds coach Karl Harrison wants to succeed Brian Noble into the Great Britain hot seat.

Noble has had three shots at Tri-Nations glory and failed to deliver.

The Rugby Football League are mulling over whether or not to renew Noble's contract. And, if he moves on, former England coach Harrison is hoping to be given the chance to take the Lions forward.

Harrison, who considers himself to be the right man for the job having sparkled at both club and England level over the last few years, said: "If I got the chance I'd jump at it.

"Brian Noble has done okay. I'm not saying get rid of Brian Noble. It's up to the people at Red Hall to make that decision - but maybe it's time for a change of direction."

Harrison would like the job on a part-time basis so that he could continue his head coach duties at Salford.

Steve Simms, Salford's director of football, says that Harrison has all of the credentials to be a top class GB coach. But he believes that the next Lions boss should be a full-time appointment.

Simms said: "Some say there's not enough work to do it full-time but there's lots to do. You can't just watch videos of players every now and then when you have a minute away from your club job."
