New Reds will play

NEW signings Andrew Dunemann, Aaron Moule, Simon Finnigan, John Wilshere, Stephen Myler and Ryan Clayton are set to make their Salford debuts on Sunday, January 29.

The City Reds travel to Warrington for their first pre-season friendly and director of football Steve Simms has revealed that all healthy squad members will get a run out.

He said: "Our new signings are all keen to play."

"We don't want to give too much away on Sunday as we play Warrington in our first Super League game.

"Both clubs will want to win to gain a psychological edge and they will also want to keep their cards close to their chests so I expect the game to be quite cagey.

"But our intention is to give everyone a game.

"We won't risk players if they are carrying knocks as it is only a friendly.

"But if a player is fit then you can expect them to play."

Aussie speedster Kevin McGuinness will not be risked on Sunday, kick-off 3pm. In fact, he is a doubt for the start of the season after suffering a setback to a long-term knee injury during Salford's 10-day training camp in Florida.

He twisted his knee and the Reds picked up several other minor injuries as well.

Simms said: "The players got through a lot of hard work in Florida so it is no surprise that they have a few bumps and bruises. But no one was injured badly."

Simms labelled the trip to Florida a 'big success'.

He said: "The work done in Florida has made me even more confident of us having a good season. The players looked sharp and fit and they all got a lot out of the trip."
