Salford issue a challenge to Sale

22/12/2005

SALFORD Reds have issued a cross-code challenge to Sale Sharks rugby union club.

The Sharks beat St Helens in a similar venture, with one half played under each set of rules, three years ago.

Salford's director of football Steve Simms, who has mulled over the idea with Sale's head coach Kingsley Jones, said: "It would be great for the two sports to come together in this way.

"Ideally, we could look at playing this game towards the end of January or early February when we return from pre-season training in Florida."

The Reds are willing to concede home advantage for the 'rugby kings of Manchester challenge' in order to achieve a bigger gate.
