Salford confirm seven departures

SALFORD City Reds have confirmed that long serving prop Paul Highton, Mat Gardner, Andrew Brocklehurst, Andy Ballard, Chris Borgese, Daley Williams and Leon Walker will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

The Advertiser exclusively revealed that those players were heading for the exit door a month ago.

Salford’s director of football Steve Simms said: "The players that we are letting go have all contributed to the success that we have enjoyed this season and I would like to thank them for all of their efforts.

"But we have a lot of financial restraints put on us and we have had to make some tough decisions.

"However, I am sure that all of the players that are leaving will be able to find new clubs as they can all play."

Highton, who is currently in his Testimonial season with the Reds, admits to being gutted by the club’s decision to let him go.

The 31-year-old Wales international prop said: "Ideally I wanted to finish my career with Salford but it’s not to be. I’m disappointed but these things happen.

"I still feel that I have a lot left to offer and I don’t want to finish right now as a frustrated player.

"I honestly believe I have another season or two in me and I’m keeping my options open.

"I want to play for as long as possible. I will listen to any offers coming my way.

"But it’s been an honour to play for Salford. The fans have been great with me."
