Stagg rejection
28/ 8/2008
AUSSIE star David Stagg has turned down the chance to sign for Salford City Reds on a three-year deal.
Salford’s director of football Steve Simms was rocked by Stagg’s shock snub after the Brisbane Broncos loose forward had initially agreed to accept a contract offer.
Stagg has now told Salford that he intends to stay with his current NRL employers.
Simms said: "We thought we had David but he’s told us that he’s had a change of heart and we are disappointed.
"It’s better though that he has decided to stay now rather than to have come over and then tell us that he isn’t happy."
Head coach Shaun McRae said: "David’s wife recently had a baby and they decided that now is not a good time to be moving away from friends and family."
