Reds eye centres of excellence

SALFORD City Reds are in the market for a pair of top class centres – and North Queensland Cowboys star Mark Henry seems to be their number one target.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form for the Cowboys this season and has been attracting considerable interest from a number of Super League clubs.

Henry is a former New South Wales schoolboy star who is known to be a strong, tough tackling and durable centre with good pace.

He can also play wing and full back and his former clubs include Canberra Raiders and the West Belconnen Warriors.

Reds bosses have checked out his availability with director of football Steve Simms saying: "We have looked at Henry and he’s an option open to us."

Simms has identified a number of potential targets in Australia and New Zealand as the Reds look to fill their remaining two overseas quota spots.

Simms, who is in daily contact with player agents, said: "We have put quite a few feelers out and we desperately need centres as we prepare for Super League.

"We have two overseas spots available and may even decide to go for a pair of centres. It all depends on who is available and what the options open to us are.

"Ideally, we hope to bring in a really top class centre who can further strengthen what will be a good squad."
