Smith signs for Reds

KIWI Test star Jeremy Smith has today signed for the Salford City Reds.
Smith, 27, has agreed a two-year deal and will join Salford from the Sydney Rabbitohs.
Football director Steve Simms who finalised the deal with the New Zealand star said: "We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to be bringing in a top quality player of Jeremy's stature.
"He will be a great acquisition and he will be extremely good in helping the continued development of our young players.
"This signing outlines our intentions. Smith can play half-back and has a fine kicking game.
"He's excited to be joining Salford and to be playing Super League.
"It's a new challenge for him and we're delighted to be bringing him onboard."
Reds' coach Shaun McRae previously coached Smith at the Rabbitohs and rates him highly.
Coach McRae has his sights firmly fixed on next season. He realises the need for experience but fully expects the young players like Ratchford, Myler and Jordan Turner to continue their rapid development. This has pleased him.
He adds: "Going into Super League means taking another huge step, it's a massive rise in standards and this is enormous."
McRae is keen to fill Salford's overseas quota. Reds have also been linked with the West Tigers duo of Corey Payne and Bronson Harrison.
Skipper Mal Alker and Robbie Paul are expected to share the hooking role in Super League. Reds would like Mickey Higham but he is bound for Warrington.
McRae added: "Hooking is one of the hardest jobs in the modern game in terms of energy levels."
McRae knows he can rely on Alker to fulfil a variety of roles in the pack.
Salford are at full strength for the game with Dewsbury but Paul is set to start on the bench.
