Myler warning after award glory

SALFORD starlet Richard Myler may have won his second successive Co-operative National League One player of the month award but he is not immune from coach Shaun McRae’s axe.

McRae is delighted for the 17-year-old scrum half and he believes that his double success is richly deserved.

But he does not want Myler letting the awards and all of his recent acclaim from rugby league writers and former professionals going to his head.

McRae said: "Richard deserves the awards. He has been fantastic for us so far this season. But he still has a lot to learn. I don’t want him thinking that he has already made it.

"I’m sure that he won’t as he is a very level-headed boy who is always telling me that he wants to learn and get better."

The Reds coach added: "I will drop anyone if they are not doing the business for me. Myler can not afford to rest on his laurels as we have another promising half back in Stefan Ratchford who would love to take his place in the side.

"I think that the pressure of having Stefan on the bench is helping Richard’s performances. He knows there’s a capable replacement if his form drops."

   Competition for places on the team is a situation any coach would like to have. And the fact that Salford have serious competition at several positions augers well for the team .Jim Shelton
