Friday will be a clash of the titans
10/ 4/2008
MALCOLM ALKER COLUMN: WE’RE only a couple of games into the season and Darren Shaw has resigned from his job as coach at Leigh Centurions.
Seems very early on in the campaign for managerial casualties, but he has sited personal reasons so you have to respect the decision he has made.
Rumours are going around that big Karl Harrison could be the man to take over the reigns at Hilton Park.
It would certainly be a good opportunity for him to get back on the coaching merry go round and I am sure the big man would make a good a job of it.
Karl taking over at Leigh would not affect our own game plans or approach to playing any matches with Leigh as our game preparation and training have changed an awful lot in recent times under Shaun McRae.
Karl along with Paul Forber, Andy Gregory, Iestyn Harris and others will be at Paul Highton’s testimonial fans forum next Tuesday, April 15, at The Willows with an 8pm start.
Might be a good opportunity to grill Karl on the possibilities of him taking over the Leigh coaching role and maybe giving the old sword an airing!
It was good to see Adam Sidlow getting plenty of game time against Bramley Buffaloes last weekend. Adam or ‘Leatherhead’ as his team mates prefer to call him, in recognition of his uncanny resemblance to the dinosaur of the same name from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is a big lad with lots of ability and skills and he has the making of a quality rugby player. He still has a lot to learn though.
Robbie Paul made his debut in the same match and it was good to see him score a brace of tries and have a real good run out on the park - that must have blown a lot of the cobwebs away. I think we will start to see the very best of Robbie the more game time he gets.
It’s a battle of the unbeaten teams tomorrow (Friday) at The Willows when we host the Widnes Vikings, who despite their points deduction, are looking to be in great shape. So it should be a clash of the titans and I hope you can all get down to The Willows for what should be a great game of rugby league.

Should less emphasis be placed on the results of tests and more emphasis on general education for children?
