Fan Cooks up a fundraising idea

A LIFELONG Salford City Reds fan is gearing up to give something back to the rugby league club that he loves.

George Cook, aged 35, will chauffeur Salford fans to all of the Reds’ home and away games in the 2008 season in an eight seater stretch limousine.

The boss of limousine hire company AK Limo’s will charge £80 per match, which equates to £10 per person.

And 25 per cent of his takings will be donated to Forever Reds – the Salford City Reds fundraising organisation which is currently raising money for the club’s Academy set-up.

Cook, who is also offering to transport customers into Manchester city centre for nights out after home matches, said: “I have followed the Reds for many years and this is one way I can benefit the supporters and give something back to the club through the Forever Reds organisation.”

Club captain Malc Alker and several members of the first team squad were on hand to try out Cook’s limo for themselves when he paid a visit to a Sedgley Park training session last week.

Alker said: “It certainly adds a bit of class to the normal mode of transport to matches.

“Unfortunately, I can’t see the boss letting us travel in the limo instead of the team coach. But you never know!”

Forever Reds chairperson Shirley Bradshaw is delighted with Cook’s innovative fundraising idea.

She said: “It’s a cracking idea. What better way to travel to a match than in the back of a limo?

“Well done Gordon. It’s a great way to raise funds for Forever Reds, which will ultimately help the club.”
