TWO Salford City Reds players shone in international matches this week.

Starting at full back, reigning Reds player of the year John Wilshere scored a try and kicked two goals but he could not prevent Papua New Guinea from going down 22-16 in France and losing their mini-series 2-0.

Salford prop Phil Leuluai came off the bench in Samoa’s 42-10 World Cup qualifying win against the United States.

He was also set to play in Samoa’s World Cup qualifier against Lebanon, which was scheduled to take place at Featherstone after the Advertiser went to press last night, Wednesday, November 14.

Fellow Salford prop Paul Highton’s hopes of playing in next year’s World Cup were ended as Wales were beaten by Lebanon 50-26 at the weekend.

Highton did not play in the World Cup eliminator for fear of aggravating a calf problem.

Winger David Hodgson, who played for Salford last season but has since joined Huddersfield, scored a try as Great Britain beat New Zealand 28-22 to complete a 3-0 whitewash and record their first series win for 14 years.
