Lions' back problem

24/ 4/2008

SWINTON Lions are down to the bare bones in the backs after Darren Bamford was ruled out for ‘between two and five weeks’ with an ankle injury.

Coach Paul Kidd is looking to sign a player on loan to ease the problem.

He said: "It is a big blow as Darren had been playing really well. It leaves us with a hole to fill in the centres again."

Bamford, who was stretchered off in Sunday’s 20-8 Challenge Cup defeat to Oldham, joins Andy Saywell (ankle), Liam McGovern (broken hand) and Chris Morley (knee) on the sidelines.

Chris Tyrer also picked up an injury against Oldham. He damaged his hip and will miss sixth-placed Swinton’s National League Two game at eighth-placed Workington Town on Sunday, April 27, kick-off 3pm. Fellow prop Adam Bibey is suspended for the match but half back Richard Hawkyard and second rower Darren Gibson could return from their respective ankle and hip injuries.

Kidd said: "We have not won at Workington Town since the 1980s but our games are notoriously close affairs and I can’t see this one being any different."
