Eccles' dire end to a poor season

24/ 4/2008

ECCLES and Salford Juniors endured an horrendous end to a horrible season by getting thumped 62-0 at Ince Rose Bridge.

The Roosters’ relegation from the National Conference League first division had already been confirmed and they went to mid-table Ince with a weakened team due to injuries and work commitments.

They were competitive for the first quarter of the game but gradually, with the help of a 16-6 penalty count in Ince’s favour, the home side wore them down and the match was effectively over by half-time.

Eccles trailed 26-0 at the break. They kept their heads up and worked hard for the majority of the second half with the highlight being a man of the match debut performance from Martin Judge.

But the sin-binnings of Neil Farrow and Marc Gilligan and some strange refereeing decisions demoralised Eccles to the point where they threw in the towel with Ince scoring 22 points in the last eight minutes.

The final league table shows Eccles lying third from bottom.
