Salford 42 Featherstone 12

SALFORD Reds coach Shaun McRae is glad to see the back of Easter despite two National League wins for his team.

McRae believes that it is asking too much of players to expect them to play two games over the Bank Holiday weekend.

But the Reds boss wasn't complaining too much after his men followed up a fine win at Leigh on Thursday with an eight-try win over Rovers.

There were a couple of injury concerns to come out of this win, though, as Karl Fitzpatrick is nursing a shoulder injury and Matt Gardner, who scored two tries, picked up a dead leg.

McRae said: "We were patchy against Featherstone but we have done what we had to do to get through a busy Easter programme.

"I don't agree with it because the second game is always less intense and there are more errors.

"If you win both games it's a bonus. I can't be too unhappy with the points ratio of 66 for and 20 against.

"It was always going to be a war of attrition but we will take the points and now look ahead."

Salford scored five first-half tries, including one from the impressive Ian Sibbit.

Young scrum-half Richard Myler again showed some neat touches - and had a role in Salford's eighth try, which was probably their best.

It went to the pacey Paul White after a measured kick from Myler put his team mate in the clear.

McRae was full of praise for White and for star man Sibbit, who has had an outstanding Easter.

The coach said: "Ian was a worthy recipient of the man-of-the-match award.

"He's getting games under his belt, and he's playing well. Matt Gardner took his tries well and Paul White also looked particularly strong."

A big boost for the Reds was another highly-encouraging 5,139 crowd and McRae greatly appreciated the levels of support.

He added: "That was another tremendous crowd, and it was very much appreciated."

McRae welcomed the victory but admitted Thursday night's slog in the mud against Leigh in a monsoon had taken its toll on his charges.

He said: "I am sure that a lot of people could see that come the end there were two tired teams."

Robbie Paul hopefully will be having his first game for the Reds against Bramley in the NR Cup in two weeks times..

If he's OK I fully expect him to be include in our starting 17 each week...

Remember when Robbie Paul does play he can either play 1/6/7/9 or 13 so the likes of Myler and Ratchford's places may not be under threat....
