ELLESMERE Golf Club’s young guns are celebrating after winning the Manchester Junior League by a whopping total of 64 points.
Their team of Matthew Wallwork, Ben Chambers, Paul Drinkwater, John Drinkwater, Neil Taylor and Matthew Bradshaw beat Pike Fold into second place as they won the league and Matchplay Trophy double for the second successive season.
League secretary Alan Toone said: "Ellesmere have got some really good players and it’s up to the other teams to catch them up.
"Ellesmere are very consistent. And I don’t think they have ever had a no return from any of their players, which is exceptional."
Ellesmere had home advantage as they rounded off the league campaign by claiming the best nett and gross scores in the final of 10 fixtures. Thirteen-handicapper Ben posted the best nett score of 68 and the best gross score of 74 belonged to his fellow 16-year-old Paul.
The duo’s successes wrapped up the league’s overall individual nett and gross titles.
The accumulation of five of Ben’s cards saw him finish on 15 under par as he took the nett title by a single shot. And Paul boasted a 16 over par total as he beat second-placed clubmate Matthew Wallwork, aged 18, in the gross stakes by 15 shots.
