BEECHFIELD United moved up to fourth spot in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester Football League first division table following an impressive 2-0 success against second-placed West Didsbury and Chorlton.
United produced a polished performance and scored second half goals via Danny Rowcroft and Anthony Weall as their unbeaten league run rolled on to six games.
Weall netted from the penalty spot after John Cardall had been upended while Beechfield’s man of the match award went to defender Leigh Andrews.
Beechfield’s reserve team stayed second in the third division table following a 2-2 home draw with Royton Town reserves.
They led 2-0 with 35 minutes left to play before a classy and well organised Royton side came roaring back.
Mike Leach and Jack Tierney netted for United.
Beechfield’s A team produced a brilliant all round performance at Wilmslow Albion reserves as they won 5-2 to move up to fourth spot.
Mike Brierley (2), Steven Crowe, Dan Blackman and Lee Unsworth hit their goals while Andrew Kennedy picked up their man of the match award.
Division One strugglers Fives Athletic found it hard going at high-flying Premier Division side Hollinwood FC in their Manchester Challenge Trophy tie. They lost the away game 6-1 with their consolation goal coming via Danny Hill.
Fives’ reserve team suffered their first defeat of the season, losing at home to Heyside 4-0 in the Manchester Amateur Cup.
Fives produced a battling display only to be undone by three goals in a seven minute spell after the half-time break.
Monton Amateurs drew 2-2 at Wythenshawe Amateurs reserves in Division Two. They produced a gritty performance and scored goals via Chris Redmond and Darren Stewart.
