Beechfield are in seventh heaven

BEECHFIELD United hammered lowly Heywood St James 7-0 on Saturday to move up to fourth place in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League first division table.

United were by no means at their best but their powerful attacking play gave them chances galore and they should have hit double figures.

Anthony Weall put United in front when he casually lobbed the ball over Heywood’s keeper. John Cardall made it 2-0 with a fine headed goal and the third soon followed in the form of a magnificent solo run and blistering finish from man of the match Mike Gould.

Trevor Walsh was on target with a close range finish and Danny Rowcroft put United 5-0 up at the half-time break, netting at the second attempt after his first effort had hit the crossbar.

Walsh supplied a fine finish to put United 6-0 ahead and Gould completed the scoring courtesy of a brilliant left footed volley.

Monton Amateurs also recorded a first division win at the weekend, beating Wilmslow 4-1 thanks to goals from Tommy Walsh (2), Tony Carroll and Wes Crompton.

The away day result, which represented Monton’s first win of the season, lifted them up to 10th spot.

But Fives Athletic and Salford Victoria remained pointless after losing at mid-table sides Old Standians (3-2) and Stand Athletic (6-2) respectively.

Fives were missing their entire back four and they found themselves 3-0 adrift after just 30 minutes of play.

But a mixture of astute substitutions and a clever change of tactics by manager Phil Meadows sparked a commendable comeback with Rob Monaghan converting a brilliant free kick before Josh Smith netted to set up a grandstand finish.

Monton Amateurs reserves are joint top of Division Two with a 100 per cent record after goals by Darren Stewart and substitute Ben Naylor secured a 2-1 home win against a young Gregorians team.
