Beechfield enjoy victory double

BEECHFIELD United are celebrating a double-whammy of derby wins in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester Football League first division.
They shot up to sixth in the table after prevailing 4-0 at Fives Athletic on Tuesday night and recorded a 4-1 home victory over Salford Victoria three days earlier.
Trevor Walsh (2), John Cardall and Danny Rowcroft netted against third from bottom Fives, in what was a run of the mill match that saw United hit the target at crucial stages, while Rowcroft (2), Cardall and Mike Gould scored against second from bottom Salford Victoria, in a game which saw both sides play some brilliant football.
But Beechfield have only won two of their opening four fixtures following a 5-2 home defeat to a highly polished Bury Amateurs side last Wednesday.
The consolation goal scorers for Beechfield, who were forced to field a depleted team missing five players, were Cardall and Rowcroft.
Meanwhile, Monton Amateurs lie 10th in the table after losing 3-0 to table-topping West Didsbury on Tuesday night and drawing 0-0 at Stand Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
And Monton’s reserve side are fourth in the second division after kicking off their campaign with a 2-1 home win against Leigh Athletic. Late goals from Graham Bragg and Chris Redmond secured a fine comeback victory after man of the match Chris Petrou had kept out a penalty and made other fine saves for Monton.
