Salford City promoted at last

IT HAS been confirmed that Salford City have finally ended their 25-year wait for promotion to the UniBond League.

The Moor Lane club were hoping that they had done enough to be promoted after finishing as runners-up in the Vodkat League first division.

And, after weeks of uncertainty, a Football Association meeting has ruled that City will be playing UniBond League Division One North football next season.

The make up of the division throws up a number of local matches against the likes of Radcliffe Borough, Mossley, Curzon Ashton and Trafford along with longer trips to Durham City, Newcastle Blue Star and Colwyn Bay.

City chairman Darren Quick said: "Gaining promotion to the UniBond League is a fabulous achievement for everyone associated with the club.

"It is the highest division the club has ever been in and it’s where we want to be, testing ourselves against a better standard of opposition.

"And it is thoroughly deserved as the players and our manager Gary Fellows did really well last season."

Meanwhile, the coming weeks will see a hive of activity at Moor Lane as the committee and supporters pitch in to spruce up the ground for the new challenge.

While the club anticipates an increase in support through the turnstiles next season, they are now keen to appeal to local businesses or interested individuals to give their support to Salford City in a bid to ensure a long stay in the UniBond League.
