Fergie hands out club grassroots awards
6/ 3/2008
PENDLEBURY United’s joy at achieving FA Charter Standard Club status was capped off by the fact that they received the prestigious award from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The award for grassroots football shows that Pendlebury have worked hard to successfully improve their standards of coaching, administration, player development and child protection.
The Manchester County Football Association award is handed out to the grassroot clubs which lead the field of promoting best football practice both on and off the field. And after receiving the award in a day to remember at Man United’s Carrington training base, Pendlebury chairman Chris Martin said: "This award is the culmination of a lot of hard work since the club was formed in October 2005 and thanks has to go to all players, managers and parents who have helped ‘the fastest growing football club in Salford’ to achieve the high standards set out by the FA.
"The club would like to thank Sir Alex Ferguson for agreeing to present the award and for everybody at Manchester United for making the experience so special for the players and committee members who attended.
"And we’d also like to thank secretary Jon Berry, whose tireless efforts have been the main driving force behind the club’s new go forward attitude.
"It is also important to realise that the club now needs to move to the next level and can’t just rest on its laurels."
Andy Basterfield, a club development officer for the Manchester County Football Association, said: "The FA Charter Standard award acknowledges the excellent support that Pendlebury United is providing within the local community and their efforts to provide opportunities for players to develop their skills and play football in a safe and positive environment."
