Monton joint top after Vics win

MONTON Amateurs edged out local rivals Salford Victoria 4-3 on Saturday to stay joint top of the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester Football League first division.
The result saw Vics drop down to ninth in the table while second from bottom Fives Athletic lost at fifth-placed Wythenshawe Town by the same score.
Monton Amateurs reserves and Irlam reserves both recorded wins to cement third and fourth spot in the second division table respectively.
Monton prevailed 2-1 at sixth-placed Gregorians reserves and Irlam triumphed 4-2 at home to lowly West Didsbury and Chorlton reserves.
Irlam’s A team crashed out of the Bridgewater League Cup with a 2-1 defeat at Gregorians B.
The previous weekend, Salford Victoria and Fives Athletic reserves were knocked out of the Bridgewater League Cup, losing 6-1 to Wilmslow Albion reserves and 2-1 to Dukinfield Town A respectively.
Fives Athletic’s Murray Shield hopes were ended by a 6-1 loss at West Didsbury and Chorlton.
Irlam, who lie fifth in the Premier Division, lost their league game at second-placed Hollinwood 4-1.
