SALFORD City consolidated their position at the top of the Vodkat League’s first division table by continuing their red-hot form to record two impressive home victories this week.

City hammered Squires Gate 5-0 on Tuesday night and defeated fellow mid-table side Winsford 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.

It took City half an hour to get the better of Gate’s off-side tactics on Tuesday night as Stephen Brackenridge latched on to a poor clearance to drive the ball home from 15 yards out.

Strong Salford pressure after the break resulted in Jon Robinson adding to his brace of goals from Saturday when he was on hand to smash home from close range following a well saved effort from Carl Lomax.

Visiting keeper Andrew Speight denied Lomax, who also got on the scoresheet at the weekend, on a couple of occasions on Tuesday night.

But Tunji Moses increased Salford’s lead on 70 minutes following some excellent play from the Moor Lane team, who were inspired by a man of the match performance from midfielder Mattie Burke.

Recent City signing Dean Thurston came off the bench to display his predatory skills by finding the back of the net twice in three minutes to finish off an excellent all round team display.

City make the short trip to Atherton LR for a league game on Saturday, October 20, kick-off 3pm, before visiting Abbey Hey in the Manchester Premier Cup on Tuesday, October 23, kick-off 7.45pm.
