Campaign gets global support

THE fight to save the Salfordian and keep maternity services in the city has received global support.

Ex-pats from across the world have been logging on to pledge their support for the threatened facility at Hope Hospital.

Former Salford residents living in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Belgium and America have left reams of messages of support on this website praising the hospital and backing our Hands Off Hope campaign.

Karen Collier, of Melbourne, worked at Hope's neonatal unit for many years before migrating to Oz.

She said: " What is the Government thinking? This group of patients - mums and babies - are the most vulnerable people in our community. Please don't make their lives any more difficult. Leave Hope Hospital alone."

Janet Loder, from Ireland, said: "Both my parents, close family and many of my relatives have passed through Hope and I hope it continues to provide the service. It's such a shame that it's even on the cards that this service is under threat of closure."

Jean Wood, from Adelaide, trained at Hope before moving to Australia.

She said: "To think of the unit closing and leaving the people of Salford without a maternity unit is unthinkable. Where do these bureaucrats come from? - certainly not from Salford.

Valerie Yrala, from Belgium, said: "My daughter, now 35, was born in Hope Hospital. The ante-natal care was excellent and the nursing staff superb. Although living abroad now, I fully support the campaign."
