Planning to make your voice heard?

11/11/2005

THE City of Salford Stadium will be considered by the council's planning committee next Thursday, November 17.

After months of speculation the plans for a 20,000 seater arena, 208-bed hotel, retail park and casino with restaurant and bars next to the M60 at Barton will finally be discussed.

If the panel approves of the plans the stadium will then be sent to the Government Office North West for final approval and the £130m dream could soon become a reality.

Members of the public can voice their opinions at the meeting which is likely to take place at the Civic Centre on Chorley Road, Swinton.

Due to delays in the application the stadium is likely to be completed in 2008 rather than 2007 as planned

Salford City Council leader Councillor John Merry said: "This is a critical stage. We are fully supportive of the Reds and all they are trying to achieve, but the application is a complex one, and will need to be carefully considered.

"Red City Developments have put together the most robust case they can, so we now must let process take its course."

Manchester City Council will not be sending a representative to the meeting.

The stadium will be heard as part of a standard planning panel meeting and anyone wishing to make a formal comment can write to: Development Control, Salford City Council, Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 5BQ, or email to: planning.contact@salford.gov.uk with a postal address included.

Whilst I have no objuection as such to developing the land do we rearly NEED ANOTHER shopping centre and just when are people going to consider the caos the traffic WILL!!!!!! cause on such a notoriously bad stretch of road. The A57 "Barton Stretch" CAN NOT cope with the current levels of traffic what will happen during the build?
