Banking on new support

12/ 8/2005

THE list of companies showing support by becoming founder members of the City of Salford Stadium is growing.

Founder members will be businesses who have pledged themselves to the club and new stadium by offering hospitality, sponsorship or community initiatives from 2006 to 2008.

Many of those companies will also be joining the Salford 100 Club, which has been set up for charities and community groups to go to games at the stadium paid for by businesses who in return benefit by highlighting the work they do in the community.

The Royal Bank of Scotland became the latest Founder Members and also the first members of the 100 club.

They are joined on the list of founders by Austin Trumann Steel, GMB Union, Mawdsley's, Nield Group, Red City Developments, Tetley's (Carlsberg UK), Trafford Centre, Wilkinson Corporation and Willows Construction.

Reds chairman John Wilkinson said: "In order to make our vision a reality we need support from our friends in the city to become founder members of our vision for the future.

"We are encouraging new business partners to this scheme as it gathers momentum.

"It is a major coup for us to get someone of the calibre of the Royal Bank of Scotland on board. They share many of our philosophies about supporting the local community and I hope we can attract similar support of this kind."

Lower Kersal's Young People's Group has already benefited from the Salford 100 club and hopes to enjoy games at the new stadium when it is completed in 2007.

Tom Lever from the group said: "Our young people have been attending Reds matches for a couple of years courtesy of the club and they look forward to going. This scheme will allow them to visit the new stadium on a regular basis."
