'The stadium will be built by the people of Salford'

THE Reds' new stadium will be built from its foundations to topping off by people from Salford pledges chairman John Wilkinson OBE.

Mr Wilkinson believes the project will be at the heart of a progressive future for his beloved city and the people of Salford will be involved at every level from construction upwards.

He said: "We will insist that the construction workers will be made up of a high percentage of local people. This is important because these people will be laying the foundations for a stadium for the people of Salford - so it's right that it should be built by the people of Salford too.

"When the stadium is up and running we also hope to employ local people in the various facilities there will be on site. It would be ideal that Salford people be at the heart of a project that will regenerate a whole area of the city.

"We could see a similar situation develop to what happened in the area around the City of Manchester stadium where there is so much investment going in.

"Peel Green and Brookhouse will benefit because of the possible investment and extra jobs for local people. Plans for Port Salford will also help the area become a real distribution hub with a great infrastructure. The stadium will be at the forefront of a real progression for the city."
