DEREK McQueeney horrified at bill for £105
Rent arrears of £2.24 - that’ll be £105 please!

PENSIONER Derek McQueeney simply forgot to pay his annual £2.24 ground rent this year - and has been ordered to cough up over £100 for the oversight!
Derek, aged 71, says he hit the roof when he received a reminder to pay his meagre ground rent arrears as well as a demand for £105 to cover administration costs.
He says because the rent he pays for a property in Swinton, which he rents out to a taxi firm, was so small it had completely slipped his mind until the bombshell letter from London company Estates and Management Limited came through his door.
Derek, of Clifton House Road, Clifton, says he immediately sent off a cheque for £2.24 and contacted his solicitor for legal advice on the administration fee demand. He is now refusing to pay the extra charge.
Said Derek: "I was horrified when I saw how much extra they were trying to get out of me. I don't know how they justify it."
A spokesperson for Estates and Management Limited said: "We sent out an invoice to remind this gentleman and three subsequent reminders as is our policy. It costs money to send out these reminders and the charge goes up incrementally."
