Jabba nights spin success

WOULD-BE superstar DJs from across Salford are making a name for themselves in bars and clubs, thanks to one man's hugely successful workshops.

Paul Singh's Jabba nights have become legendary across Salford, throughout Greater Manchester and beyond.

The under-18 events, which have been endorsed by police and politicians as safe nights for youngsters, started in Paul's home town of Cadishead three years ago and he has been inundated with invitations to put them on across the country. The parties also include workshops where professionals train youngsters how to spin disks and rap.

Two of Jabba's proteges - DJ Silk and DJ Ballistic - are now beginning to make names for themselves on the club scene.

DJ Silk, who originally hails from Irlam but now lives in Eccles, has been playing in Manchester's Synergy nightclub, as well as in Shrewsbury. And DJ Ballistic, from Cadishead, has a regular weekly slot in Manchester's Bar Med.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Walkden High School pupil Andy Rowe could also have a bright future ahead of him. He has been going to the Jabba workshops for almost a year and is beginning to show promise.

Paul said once the teenager had finished his GCSE exams they would give him the option of playing in front of 100-strong crowds, before moving him up to bigger crowds and putting his DJ name on promotional flyers.

Paul told us: "The workshops help them out a lot and give them a big opportunity. We don't say, 'You're rubbish, get off'. We give everyone the opportunity to have a go. There's been a lot of demand."

The next workshop is at Salford College Worsley Campus on March 21.
