Suspect arrested in murder probe

POLICE have made an arrest after a man died after being stabbed several times last night (Thursday) in Pendleton.

Thirty-three-year-old Stephen Swindells, of Rockley Gardens, Pendleton, was found in a collapsed condition in an alleyway between Strawberry Road and Broad Street, shortly before 10pm. The man was taken to Hope Hospital with stab wounds to his chest and lower abdomen where he later died.

A 24-year-old man from Walkden has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 31-year-old man from Farnworth and an 18-year-old man from Bolton have both been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

A post mortem examination is currently underway and the victim has not yet been formally been identified. Enquiries into the murder are continuing.
