Men attacked in car-park theft

10/ 1/2003

TWO men were injured after being assaulted and robbed in a pub car park.

Detectives in Salford are appealing for information following the incident at the Old Pint Pot public house on Adelphi Street in Trinity.

Two work colleagues, a 25-year old man from Orrell and a 41-year-old man from Irwell Vale, left the pub at 10.00pm on Tuesday and returned to their cars which were parked next to each other in the car park.

After the 41-year-old had placed his laptop computer in his boot he got into his Volkswagen Golf when he saw a man trying to reopen the boot. The 41-year-old got out from his car and the man, who was holding what has been described as a 5ft scaffolding bar, threatened him and demanded the car keys. The man refused and was hit around the left side of his head and lost consciousness for approximately two minutes.

At the same time the 25-year-old man was putting his laptop computer in the boot of his Renault Megane when he heard shouting and saw four men running towards him. He was also threatened with a metal bar and was kicked in the stomach causing him to drop his car keys. The offenders then smashed the rear window of the Golf and took the laptop before getting into the Renault driving from the car park at speed.

Both men were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries which were not life threatening. The Renault Megane was recovered the following morning in nearby Barnett Drive.

DC Carl Richardson said: "This really was a totally unprovoked attack on two men who had been working on a project together in the pub. These offenders have shown absolutely no regard for anyone - they assaulted both men and stole their property and two cars. People like this need to be caught and I would ask anyone who does have any information to please contact us."

Officers can be contacted at the Crescent CID on 0161 856 5097 or at Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
