MP scores a winner for old school

2/ 1/2003

ON-THE-BALL Eccles MP Ian Stewart scored a victory for his old school when he won them ten footballs in a keepy-uppy competition.

Mr Stewart won the balls for Irlam and Cadishead Community High School as part of a McDonald's-sponsored scheme to promote sport in schools.

As part of the initiative, McDonald's is also offering schoolchildren from across the country the chance to train to become coaches.

Mr Stewart said: "Having been a pupil at the high school and a past governor, I think it's very important that we make every effort to generate school football.

"It is a good school which takes the positive teaching of games properly and treats sport as important.

"I'm happy to support the teachers and pupils in relation to developing football."
