Woman stabbed during robbery

A WOMAN is in hospital after being stabbed for refusing to hand over her bike to robbers.

The 27-year-old woman was making her way home to Arthur Millwood Court in Salford on her bicycle at about 5.30pm yesterday (Monday). As she stood at the entrance to the flats she was approached by a man who was holding what has been described as a knife. The man threatened the woman and tried to take her bike but she refused.

During a struggle a second man appeared and both men then tried to take the bike from the 27yr old. The woman held on to her bike and was dragged into the road at which point she fell over and cut her hands. As she fell she felt a sharp pain in her back and realised that she had been stabbed.

The two men then left the woman taking her bike with them. They were last seen cycling along Rodney Street on a black BMX and the stolen white 'Manga' BMX.

The woman was taken to Hope Hospital where she is being treated for a stab wound to her back, her injuries are not thought to be life threatening and her condition is described as comfortable.

The woman has described the two offenders as being white, about 19 years old with dark cropped hair of slim build. They were around 5ft 6in and both wore blue 'parka' style coats.

Detective Constable Joanne Kay said: "This was an extremely frightening incident for the woman and she is fortunate that she was not seriously injured.

"Someone must have seen these two men cycling along Rodney Street away from Arthur Millwood Court. The robbery happened at 5.30pm which is still a busy time with a lot of people travelling home from work."
