Mystery of injured pensioner

POLICE are trying to unravel the mystery of an 89-year-old man who was found collapsed in Eccles a week ago.

The man was found just before midnight last Monday (4th) in Liverpool Road with head injuries which he sustained in what is believed to be an assault. He was taken to Hope Hospital where he is still being treated for cuts and bruising to his head, his condition is described as stable.

Detective Inspector James Dolan said: "This man was found by a woman who was driving along Liverpool Road. She stopped her car and rang for an ambulance from the public payphone in a nearby restaurant giving the name of Mrs Morris.

"We are very interested to speak with this woman as she may hold vital information as to how this man received his injuries. We would ask her or any other witnesses to please contact us on 0161 856 5351."
