Spirits of streets wanderers return

SALFORD'S very own globetrotters have returned from the trip of a lifetime - and say they can't thank The Advertiser enough for their wonderful South African tour.
Clare Walters and Kerry Adlington won the Spirit of the Street competition, which formed part of the sponsorship of the Commonwealth Games by the Guardian Media Group - parent company of Greater Manchester Weekly Newspapers (GMWN), of which The Advertiser is a part.
Clare said: "It really was an experience. The best part was going to Seleleka High School where all the students were singing to us. I learned so much, I really didn't think there was racism there anymore, but it's terrible. It really opened my eyes."
She added: "One of the most moving experiences was the HIV hospital where there were two babies suffering from HIV and AIDs, the apartheid museum was interesting because I think it taught me some valuable lessons."
Meanwhile, Kerry's proud mum, also Kerry, said: "She absolutely loved every minute of it, but she said at some times she was breaking down and sobbing because it was so emotional. She wants to try and help so many people over there and she's determined to go back. She a different person and she would love to thank the organisers for making this trip possible."
