Brave mum nets two top honours

WALKDEN mum Nicola Froggatt's fearless hands-on approach to crime has netted her two top bravery awards in a month.

Nicola, aged 22, has just been awarded the Mayor of Salford's Citizen of the Month award after stopping a burglar in his tracks.

She was presented with the award at full council last Wednesday after being nominated by Chief Supt Brian Wroe, of the Salford division. Mr Wroe had already awarded her his Divisional Commander's Commendation, an honour in itself, as the award normally goes to those in the police force.

Nicola's brace of honours comes after she spotted a burglar coming out of a neighbour's house with a sackful of property.

Chief Supt Wroe described the incident: "Without a thought, she challenged a burly 31-year-old, 6ft tall man known to the police for incidents of violence and heroin taking. She then recovered the property and reported the matter to the police."

The burglar was sentenced in November at Manchester Crown Court to a four year jail sentence.

Nicola was presented with a certificate and a glass goblet. She told The Advertiser afterwards: "I was just so annoyed when I saw his legs coming out of the window.

"I know the person and when he told me to go back inside and ignore him I just saw red."
