Burglars battered with gravy

ARMED burglars fled empty-handed after being battered with a baking tray and smothered with gravy.
The pair came unstuck after attempting to rob a house in Buckthorn Lane, Brookhouse on Sunday night.
The plucky householder, who fought off the attack, answered a knock at his door just after 11.30pm and was confronted by two men wearing black ski masks.
One brandished a canister which he sprayed into the home owner's face. The other man was carrying a nine-inch kitchen knife.
They bundled their victim into the kitchen and ordered him to lie on the floor, after which they attempted to snatch his gold bracelet.
But the have-a-go hero fought back, snatching the mask off one of his assailants and hitting both of them with a baking tray, before throwing a pan of gravy over them.
The two thugs fled empty-handed.
