OAPs hurt in road accident

AN 81-year-old man was seriously hurt when the car he was driving overturned in Swinton on Boxing Day.

The man, from Clifton Grove in the town, was travelling down the nearby A6 Manchester Road when his Fiat Punto clipped a flashing crossing beacon in the central refuge and flipped over.

He was taken to Hope Hospital with head injuries which were described as serious, but not life-threatening.

An 83-year-old female front-seat passenger, also from Clifton Grove, was uninjured, while a 78-year-old woman from Moss Bank Grove, who was in the back seat, suffered a broken right collarbone and cuts to her head. She was discharged from Hope Hospital after treatment.
