Post office closes but parents stay safe

17/12/2001

PARENTS who were worried their children's Christmas presents might have been lost, after a post office unexpectedly closed, have been told they will get them.

Strangeways Post Office in Bury New Road closed last Thursday following an audit and sub post-master David Platt was suspended following further enquiries.

But Mr Platt, who is to re-open the shop part of the business which runs a Christmas Club, says fears over the presents are groundless.

However the post office itself will remain closed.

Post Office spokesman Graham Moore could not comment on the club but said: "We apologise to customers for this unforeseen closure and would advise them to use alternative counter services at Hightown post office in Waterloo Road."
