WHEN unemployed Warren Bradley placed a £1 bet on the Super Six bingo and won £2,500 he planned to take his severely ill wife on a sunshine holiday.
But when the 42-year-old popped into Coralto collect the cash he was told there had been a mix up over the clocks going back which made his win invalid. He was offered his pound stake back.
Mr Bradley had earmarked the unexpected windfall to take his sick wife Amanda on a holiday to Tenerife.
Amanda, 35, has kidney failure and is waiting for a kidney and pancreas transplant.
Warren said: "I am unemployed and we don't have much money so when we heard we had won £2,500 it was like a dream come true.
"My wife is very ill and I thought a holiday would set her up for when she has to go into hospital."
Warren and Amanda, of Caledonian Drive, Eccles, went into Coral bookmakers, on Church Street, Eccles, last Sunday afternoon and placed a bet on a Super Six bingo game moments before it started at 4.08pm.
They stayed in the shop while the game took place and when Amanda went to check their ticket were told they had won £2,500.
Warren said they were asked to come back the following day for their winnings and that's when they were told there would be no payout.
Warren went on: "I couldn't believe it. I knew we'd won - so did the staff. We even had a receipt confirming it.
"But when they checked with head office, they were told there had been problems with the computers over the weekend because the clocks had gone back. As a result my bet had been placed after the bingo game started so it wasn't valid.
"That is not possible because the moment the game starts, all bets are off, and if you try to place a bet it goes on to the next game.
"The fact that it didn't proves I had won legitimately. I don't blame the staff - they were genuinely pleased we had won.
"I actually felt sorry for the manager when she said she had been instructed to give me back my £1 stake as a ‘goodwill gesture’.
"I said the only goodwill payment I was prepared to accept was my £2,500 winnings."
A spokesperson for Coral explained Super Six bingo was not run by Coral but by an outside supplier.
He said: "There was a glitch over the weekend with this firm's computers because of the clocks going back, and this meant that in certain parts of the country the results were known before the game was screened. We don't know how many people were affected and each case is being investigated by Coral on an individual basis."
