Police probe death of girl, aged 2

DETECTIVES are investigating the death of a two-year-old girl.

The Ambulance Service was called to Liverpool Road, Salford, just before 4.50pm on Tuesday, following reports a child had been found injured.

Officers attended a short time later and discovered a two-year-old girl with serious head injuries. She was taken to Salford Royal Hospital and later transferred to Pendlebury Children's Hospital where she died this afternoon (Thursday).

She has been identified as Demi Leigh Mahon of Liverpool Road, Salford. Prior to her death it is believed Demi may have been taken to the park on Nelson Street in Eccles.

At this stage officers are trying to establish how the child came to suffer her injuries and are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the park between around 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Tuesday (15 July).
 
A Home Office Post Mortem is due to be conducted on Friday.

A 53-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody for questioning.
