Thieves pull the udder one

A DESPERATE businessman has made a moo-ving plea to thieves - he wants Daisy the cow back.

Daisy, a life-size model of a Friesian cow, was stolen from Colin Downie’s Picture and Mirrors outlet, in Broughton Street, Lower Broughton on Sunday, May 25 along with a vanload of stock.

And although replacing the van and stock has put Colin over £4,000 out of pocket, it is the theft of Daisy which has really hurt him.

The 44-year-old businessman said: "Police have told me I won’t get the van back now and replacing it - as well as the stock - is going be over £4,000. But what has really irritated me is the theft of Daisy. She was nicked from a storage unit at the back of the yard, and it looks as if someone knew exactly where to find her.

"We miss her a lot. She used to stand outside the gates and attract customers. People would stop and look at her and then come in to the works.

"I bought her and a black bull, called Ronaldo, from Poland a few years ago at a cost of £2,000 each.

"He’s still here and I’m keeping a close watch on him to make sure he doesn’t go walkies.

"I’m totally at a loss as to know what somebody would want with Daisy.

"She can’t be easy to hide. She’s a life-size black and white resin cow.

"I really want her back and am pleading with someone to come forward with information."

Colin’s business has been targeted repeatedly by thieves over the last month, but it was in the early hours of May 25 when they struck.

The fence was cut apart and the thieves got in and stole pallets of mirrors and frames, a van to carry them away with and, of course, Daisy.
