A SALFORD hotel will be raising its glass - or cup and saucer - after winning a prestigious award for its tea.
The Lowry Hotel, in Dearman's Place, Salford, was given an Award of Excellence in the UK Tea Council’s coveted Top Tea Place 2008 awards.
The UK Tea Council’s team of undercover Tea Guild inspectors had visited over 100 tearooms and hotels throughout the UK and the judges were so impressed with the quality of the afternoon tea served at The River Bar at the Lowry that they awarded them high marks in every category.
The Lowry Hotel was awarded along with 55 other tea places throughout the UK for the variety and quality of the teas offered together with excellent service, décor, ambience, presentation and value for money.
Helen Hipkiss, marketing manager at The Lowry, said: "We are over the moon with the award. I think the reason we got it is because we put a lot of thought into all aspects of the tea, rather than just churning it out.
"The tea is brewed at exactly the right temperature and there is a lot of care put into the making of the cakes. We do everything by hand, and I've watched them do it - it's amazing."
But the cuppa offered at The Lowry is not just any old brew - it costs £19.50 or £29.50 with a glass of champagne.
The tea, which comes with unlimited top-ups, also includes a selection of finger sandwiches, cream cakes, and freshly baked scones with strawberry preserve and clotted cream.
Helen said: "You do get quite a bit for your money, because not only is it so good, there's also so much of it.
"If you ask for more, we'll bring you more - you sometimes see people leaving with big boxes of sandwiches!"
