‘Party for our Danielle’

27/ 3/2008

THE family of a teenage girl killed after being thrown from her boyfriend’s car are holding a party to mark her 18th birthday.

Danielle Dickson was just 16 when she died in a car accident in March last year.

She was travelling with her boyfriend, Michael Wilson, 25, and they were both not wearing seatbelts when his BMW spun out of control. Both were flung from the car and died later in hospital.

Now Danielle’s family are holding a party to celebrate her life, on Friday, April 18, the day she would have turned 18.

Caroline Dickson, Danielle’s mother, said: "Danielle would have been 18 this year so we are going to have a party for her. She was such a big personality and we think lots of people will turn up.

"It’ll be in the pub that she liked - The Royal Arms in Cadishead.

"We miss her every day and we think about her every day. I just wish she was here."

Mrs Dickson, of Dean Road, Cadishead still visits her daughter’s grave and says all her friends are still thinking about her too.

Mrs Dickson said: "Every time we go up to the cemetery there are toys and tributes left there from all Danielle’s friends, and we went on Bebo the other day and there have been tributes left all year, not just on the anniversary."

Stacey Crook, 25, was one of Danielle’s best friends, and said that she was taking it ‘one step at a time’.

She said: "It’s really hard sometimes but we just have to keep going. The only way to do it is to take it one step at a time, each day as it comes. We all really miss her - she was so bubbly and such a personality."

The couple, who had been dating for two months, died after father-of-one Michael, of Magenta Avenue, Cadishead lost control of the car as it took a bend on a wet road. The vehicle then clipped the wrong side of the curb before flipping over and ploughing through a garden wall near Lathom Road, Irlam.

Danielle’s best friend since primary school Rebecca Mulgrew, of Brindley Close, Eccles was in the back seat and suffered head injuries in the horrific smash.

At an inquest into the couple’s death police accident investigators said the speed of the car was clearly ‘excessive’ as the impact not only threw Danielle and Michael from the car but the engine was also flung 30 yards into a field.
