Bright Sparks’ good idea needs your help

A SALFORD girl group are taking their first steps on the road to pop stardom as they work towards releasing a charity single in aid of cancer hospital Christie’s.

The band, which is as yet unnamed, is made up of four young girls who are looking for help from local businesses to achieve their dream.

The girls - Kamara Munroe, Bethany Downie, Chanice Devine and Chloe Ward - all study drama, singing, dance and film at Bright Sparks Drama Academy, in Legh Street, Eccles, and were put together by academy boss Audrey Clark.

But they need help to make their dream become a reality and are looking for a local clothes shop to help kit the girls out in clothes good enough to rival any pop star.

Help from any choreographers or any other businesses who could offer air time to play their single or provide a venue to stage any gigs would also be welcomed.

The group is being helped by Leanne Brown, one half of pop duo Sweet Female Attitude, whose hit Flowers reached number two in the charts in 2000.

They are already rehearsing and hope to release a single - penned by Leanne - and perform a concert in aid of Christie’s within 12 weeks.

Rhianna fan Kamara, 13, from Eccles, said: "It’s really good being in a band. I would like to carry it on and be an actress or singer when I’m older.

"I just love singing, being on stage and entertaining people."

Kamara’s cousin Bethany, 11, from Peel Green, said: "I’m really enjoying it.

"It’s good fun and some of the people in the band are my friends. I like Girls Aloud a lot and I would go on X Factor if I was old enough."

Chanice, 15, from Eccles, said: "We’ve got the first rehearsals next week so that should be fun. I want to be a professional singer or dancer. I never get nervous on stage - I just love it."

Chloe, 11, from Prestwich, added: "It’s really good and we all have to work together as a team."

Vocal coach Leanne said: "The girls are absolutely fabulous and hopefully it will give them an insight into the real aspects of being in a band."

A reserve band, which includes fellow pupil and Emmerdale actress Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Sugden, has also been created.
