Abuse puts pups in hospital

Paul Britton

RSPCA bosses are appealing for information after two puppies were taken to an animal hospital with injuries caused by attempts to `dock' their tails.

The rottweilers, thought to be siblings, were taken separately to Greater Manchester Animal Hospital in Salford by owners who bought them after answering an advert in a supermarket in Eccles.

The male had a deep cut and the female's tail had been amputated, causing a bad infection.

The seller is only known as `Joanne'. She is white and in her 20s. RSPCA bosses have been trying to reach a mobile number the buyers contacted her on.

The docking of dogs' tails is now illegal.

RSPCA inspector Ben Strangwood said some owners illegally dock tails for `cosmetic' reasons.

But he added: "It is illegal, with the exception of certain types of working dogs. Rottweilers are not exempt from the ban.

"Cosmetic tail docking is unnecessary and painful, and the law now recognises that.

"There could be other injured puppies out there from the same litter."

Anyone with information can call the RSPCA's 24-hour cruelty hotline on 0300 1234 999.

I am really sickened by whoever has done this to poor defenceless animals, i hope they get what they deserve.

Better still, they can contact me with her details, they must have an address. The things people will do to make a few quid or save a few quid. As I've said before, people who treat animals like this shouldn't be allowed to keep them & it should be questioned wether they are a risk to kids or any vulnerable adults.
