When the Conservatives chose Cameron they essentially appointed another Tony Blair.
Cameron is articulate, handsome, charming and charismatic. He is media savvy and a political opportunist. He is 'Tory-lite' - at least so far[!] - so what depth there is to his ideological conservatism I really don't know. He's a politically correct, secular humanist centrist as far as I can see. Whether he has any serious political convictions and if so what they are I don't know.
This country needs serious conviction politicians (whichever party they join). I'm a real conservative but I'm not welcome in the present Cameronian parody of the Conservative Party which has become obsessed with media manipulation and trying to convince people that the Tories are nice - forget serious politics.
I mean most true Tories were horrified when the Party appointed Stonewall as an advisory group.
Or how about the time the Party praised as a "hero" the pornographic-prostitute Keeley Hazell as an environmental champion because she gave energy saving tips in a trash newspaper (along with her photo!) such as save electricity by having sex with the lights off.
Or how about the pandering to the whole global warming/ 'green' agenda nonsense?
It's anyone's guess how Cameron would perform as PM. On present showing it still remains the case that his election victory [if so] will be more down to the Government losing than the Opposition winning.
The Fred Dibnah thing is probably just another PR opportunity for Cameron though he probably was fond of Fred... weren't we all. What Fred would've made of Cameron though is anyone's guess!

I can't recall a time when Salford has had anything other than Labour MP's. It has always been 'socialist' city. Thank goodness. But hears a thought. How many voters in the UK have even looked at, let alone actually read, a New Labour, Liberal Democrat or Conservative, party manifesto? The percentage turnout of potential voters says it all.

Richard, have you seen the Frd Dibhah story on the MEN pages? David "call me Dave" "hug a hoodie" Cameron was there at the unveiling of Freds statue. Any comments? Or is it just a witch Hazel hunt you have

At the last General Election in 2005 in the Salford constituency for which Blears is the incumbent MP, there was a turnout of 22,600 that actually voted - or 35% of the electorate.
Of that 35% of the electorate, only 13,000 people actually voted for Blears [or more likely for the Labour Party rather than Blears personally] - or 58% of all those that actually voted.
Put simply, of all the people in Blears' constituency that she supposedly 'represents', only one-in-five actually voted for her/Labour [the rest either didn't vote or voted for another].
Therefore Blears has no popular mandate (and never has had). She is in position on the basis of the wishes of a small minority (20%). [Incidentally that figure of 20% can be extrapolated to our present Labour Government as a whole.]
I'm confident Blears is loathed by the majority of the Salford electorate. Furthermore I'm confident that - if I can get the necessary financial backing and media opportunities to credibly reach the electorate with my message and manifesto - then I can beat Blears.

Great! However I would like my MP to be seen to be active in their constitency. But it still doesn't explain your almost supernatural ability to read the minds of thousands of Salfordians- presumably these same thousands who voted her in.

Indeed!
I view the position of MP as an opportunity to serve a constituency (and, more broadly, the nation)... not as an opportunity to serve myself!
I believe a good MP doesn't need to waste time promoting himself in the media... if an MP's doing a good job the people will know and will vote for him again without the need for a constant stream of artificially contrived self-indulgent photo-opportunities.
A good MP should be getting on with the job and should have a track record of political achievements which speaks for itself. On Hazel's watch [and she's had 11 years so far!] Salford (and the nation) has got worse. Quite frankly Hazel Blears simply isn't of sufficient calibre to be an MP... it is a travesty that a person of such low ability and morals (and all the others) could ever get into Parliament - but then she is typical of the present generation of MPs which includes some of least suitable people of the lowest ability ever to become MPs.
When I become an MP you'll find me doing the job and definitely not wasting my constituents' time and money attending frivolous photo-opportunities.

I look forward to you shunning the camera when you become an MP (which of course you almost certainly will as you seem to have the amazing gift of knowing what thousands of Salfordian want! You can't fail)

I'm asking a question about Hazel's priorities because she was there! And that deafening din... that's the sound of thousands of other Salfordians who agree with me. This was just a photo-op - plain and simple. The majority of times we ever see Hazel in Salford is when there's a camera there.
It is not the job of MPs - let alone government ministers - to spend their time (funded by us) promoting their own interests and acting as a media celebrity - as Hazel does. Any decent politician should be entirely engaged in the serious business of politics - especially a Labour politician when this country's in such a mess and Labour's had 11 years to do something about it [in fact Labour's 11 years is largely the cause of the mess of course!].
Next time get Ryan Giggs, Catherine Tyldesley or Ailsa Cranna for your grand opening. Oh... and don't waste money on 'grand openings' anyway! It's a few houses in Salford... why the need for a 'grand opening'? The only reason I can think of for a grand opening is a hefty chunk of self-congratulation... and to provide a photo-opportunity for Hazel!
I look forward to standing against and defeating this useless and grotesque parody of an MP. The only photo of Hazel that most Salfordians want to see is the one of her face on the day she loses her seat!

Induge all you like Richard.
This is how it really went. 1 She was invited to attend the opening of an event in her constituency and in her capacity of Secretary of State for Communities. 2 She accepted the invitation. 3 Someone took a photo of her.
Simple as pie. She was doing her job. If she hadn't been present then i'm sure questions about her priorites would have been asked.
